Sneak Peek

by Ryan Parman • March 31, 2005 • Code, Projects • 8 comments

It’s still in the works, but I thought I’d give you all a sneak peek of the new Tarzan Control Panel. Check it out:

Tarzan Control Panel 1.2 Beta

I’ve still got some things to implement, bugs to fix, design tweaks to make, and API to build, but overall the new 1.2 version of Tarzan is shaping up extemely well. I don’t like to announce timelines for personal projects (as work/professional projects have been known to take up large chunks of time, and I have to dedicate myself to those in order to pay the bills), but I can say “soon”.

I’m also hoping to put out a v1.1.1 release to address Dreamhost’s recent decision to disable the use of PHP’s fopen() function for accessing data from external sites. This decision directly affects both Tarzan and SimplePie.

I know that this is just a visual sneak peek, and there isn’t much here for Tarzan developers, but what do you think?

Awesome!!! That interface is schweeeet Ryan :)
It looks a *little* gmail’ish, but I think you’ve done it better than them anyhoo.
Alright, now I’m really going to have to consider rolling this into the next version of my site. Is this compatible with some sort of Amazon pay-per-click deal? I know that sounds evil, but I’d rather recommend books and music I actually like than go with adsense

Yeah, after looking at Gmail, I suppose it kinda does, doesn’t it? Not too much, but a smidge.

Tarzan utilizes your Amazon Associates ID to track clicks and purchases made through your site, so yes, it does have “some sort of Amazon pay-per-click deal”. More specifically, it’s a pay-per-conversion deal. You get a certain percentage back on everything sold.

I’m hoping to implement a search API into this version as well, and I think that it’ll open up all sorts of options for people.

wow, looks like it’s coming along nicely. I never expected you to go this far with Tarzan. I was already very pleased with the first version. But this looks very promising!

Hell… 1.2 has moved on a huge way from the beta I’m runnin’…

Anyhow, looks nice, can’t wait to see it myself.

Ryan, I noticed the forms in the CP do not use labels? Can I ask why not?

Not quite sure what you’re talking about. Care to clarify? Also understand that this isn’t complete yet? It’s still undergoing development and testing.

Specifically, the label tag.

E.g. <label for=”id_name”> <input name=”name” id=”id_name” type=”text”>

I didn’t think it was a work in progress because of the 1.x version number. Usually, anything that’s 1.0, in my experience, is consider production/stable.

Looking very nice, ryan!

Come monday, I’ll be working with my knives instead of with a keyboard, so hopefully I’ll be a bit more motivated to get off my rear end and get some work done on my own personal projects…
